Dr Brian Pennie, neuroscientist and performance consultant, has developed a new programme Beyond Resilience, that is tailor-made to meet the demands of the modern world. This interactive workshop offers a series of tangible, practical, and evidence-based tools that will help you to bounce back from setbacks, better manage stress and anxiety, and develop “Real Resilience” in your day-to-day life.

Beyond resilience will teach you

  • Build a science-based toolbox to navigate stress and anxiety
  • Create space during emotionally challenging events
  • Avoid burnout
  • Bounce back from setbacks using obstacles as fuel for growth
  • Say no to things that don’t serve you
  • Create boundaries around challenging relationships

How it works

With a distinct emphasis on our biological, emotional, psychological, and social worlds, this 4-week online course delivers the latest techniques from neuro and behavioural science in the areas of breath work, exercise, nutrition, gratitude, relationships, growth mindset, chronic inflammation, and much more.

What's included

This course includes four 2-hour workshops (all recorded), Q & A sessions, and a comprehensive workbook. The workbook includes a series of self-reflection exercises, links to articles and videos (written and created by Brian), and a range of recommended resources from some of the greatest minds in the game, all of which directly relate to the workshop material.

You can also gain free access to Brian’s seminal online self-study learning course, Master Your Self-Talk

Biological

Week 1 will dissect the interactive nature of the brain, body, and mind. With a focus on neuroplasticity, polyvagal theory, our immune systems, and how our bodies react to internal and external triggers, you’ll learn how to apply the latest neuro and science-based techniques to both tackle both chronic and real-time stress and anxiety. You will also learn about the relationship between the brain with both exercise and nutrition, as well as the neuroscientific underpinnings of my personal 3-min morning routine, called BAG, which harnesses the power of Breath work, Affirmations, and Gratitude.

Emotional

Week 2 will focus on emotional resilience, with an emphasis on learning how to pause and create space during emotionally challenging events. This workshop will also highlight the dangers of trying to control what you cannot control, as well as the chain-reactive nature of emotional triggering to uncontrollable events. You will also learn how to avoid emotional burnout by preventing emotional hijacking’s before they take hold.

Psychological

Week 3 will focus on our thoughts, beliefs, and self-talk – huge forces that shape how we respond to external events – which can either empower us to overcome challenges or hold us back from reaching our full potential. Drawing on psychological concepts such as growth mindset and antifragility, you will learn how to develop greater confidence in yourself, lean into adversity using obstacles as fuel for growth, speak to yourself with kindness and self-compassion, and change your relationship with self-doubt, negative self-talk, and limiting beliefs.

Social

Week 4 focuses on our relationships with others, which can have a profound impact on our emotional well-being and resilience. With an emphasis on nurturing good relationships and removing problematic relationships (both personal and professional), this workshop will highlight the latest research from polyvagal theory, and my recent work with the godfather of this theory, Professor Steven Porges. You will also discover the dangers of people pleasing, how to create boundaries around challenging relationships, and how to surround yourself with people who will bring out the best in you
